Phenyo is a BCom Law and LLB graduate from the University of Pretoria and holds an LLM in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa from the Centre for Human Rights (University of Pretoria). During their LLM programme, Phenyo worked for the Centre for Human Rights’ Expression, Information, and Digital Rights Unit and interned for the Kenyan Commission for Human Rights (NGO) in Nairobi, Kenya.
In addition to having published two journal articles, Phenyo has also served as both an Editor and Editor-in-Chief of the Pretoria Student Law Review – a student-driven journal tasked with publishing contemporary legal issues. Phenyo is also an avid mooter and has competed and coached in several national and international competitions.
Phenyo is a human rights crusader and researcher whose human rights activism extends to the promotion and protection of digital rights as well as the intersections of human rights and digital technologies (particularly AI) within the African region.
