ALT Advisory assisted Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) in drafting submissions to the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) on the discussion document published on the role and responsibilities of ICASA in cybersecurity. The submissions focused on three key aspects: (i) the issue of resource constraints faced by ICASA; (ii) the existing regulatory landscape and the state of regulatory uncertainty; and (iii) the functions of ICASA. This is the start of an inquiry in terms of section 4B of the ICASA Act, 2000, through which ICASA seeks to obtain information to assist it to define its role in the cybersecurity environment.
