ALT Advisory assisted the Press Council of South Africa, the South African National Editors’ Forum, Media Monitoring Africa and the amaBhungane Centre for Investigative Journalism with the preparation of submissions on the draft regulations published by the Information Regulator in terms of section 112 of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
The submissions focused on the journalistic exemption contained in section 7 of POPIA, and the application of POPIA and the draft regulations to the media. The submissions further proposed amendments to the text of the draft regulations to clarify its application. The submissions were filed on 7 November 2017.
