ALT Advisory’s Tina Power presented at the University of Pretoria’s webinar workshop on women as agents as ubuntu philosophy during the COVID-19 pandemic. Tina focused on issues relating to humanity, women, and freedom of expression. Her presentation looked at the advancement of freedom of expression online. She highlighted some of the challenges that women and marginalised and at-risk groups, face when it comes to exercising their rights to freedom of expression, noting the pervasive gender digital divide in South Africa. A further focus of the presentation was the rise in novel ways that women and marginalised groups are advancing their rights online and are establishing new forms of mobilisation, solidarity, and support. The presentation concluded with examples of the new ways in which ubuntu can be realised both on and offline.
