Andrew is a Strategic Advisor to ALT Advisory and a public interest lawyer, strategist, policy specialist, and researcher.

ABOUT ANDREW.

  • Andrew is a Strategic Advisor to ALT Advisory supporting our institutional and programmatic development and growth in Africa. He also works on select advisory, research, and training projects.

    As a public interest lawyer and human rights advocate with over 15 years’ experience, Andrew’s work is centred on the thematic areas of indigenous peoples’ rights, forced migration, democratic governance, rule of law, elections, civic technology, and transitional justice, and he focuses primarily on legal research, strategic litigation, policy formulation and analysis, domestic and international advocacy, and civic education.

    Andrew holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi and a Master of Advanced Studies in Transitional Justice, Human Rights, and the Rule of Law (summa cum laude) from the renowned Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. He has worked as a Program Manager for the Kenya Human Rights Commission (2011-2018) and he has consulted to the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH). 

    Andrew also provides expert guidance to several civil society consortia as an advisor on African Union engagement and in coordination of continental projects implemented across countries in East, West, and Southern Africa.

    He is presently a board member of REDRESS, a human rights organisation that supports victims of torture obtain justice and reparations.

ANDREW’S RECENT WORK.

    • Contributor to the Africa Union Transitional Justice Policy framework.
    • Training consultant for the United Nations Development Prgramme’s 2020 Capacity Building of Gambia Civil Society Organisations on Advocacy, Resource Mobilization, and Partnerships.
    • Member of the Advisory Committee to the Africa Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) Study on Transitional Justice in Africa.
    • Member of the Reference Group to the ACHPR’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture in Africa (CPTA) to develop a General Comment on Victims’ Right to Redress under Article 5 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (African Charter).
    • Guest Instructor for the 2019, 2021 and 2022 editions of the Intensive Course on Transitional Justice convened by the International Centre for Transitional Justice and the Barcelona International Peace Institute.
