IEC to hold public hearings on the draft Party Funding Regulations
The Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has announced that it will be holding public hearings on the draft regulations in terms of the Political Party Funding Act 6 of 2018 (Party Funding Regulations). The hearings will be held in Parliament on 1-2 August 2019.
As set out in the notice, the purpose of the Political Party Funding Act is to regulate the public and private funding of political parties. It provides, among other things, for the establishment and management of Represented Political Parties Fund and a new Multiparty Democracy Fund; the prohibition of certain donations made directly to political parties; the regulation of the disclosure of donations accepted; and the powers and duties of the IEC.
Any stakeholders who would like to provide comments must email this to Ms Boitumelo Ranyane at [email protected] by 23 July 2019.
The invitation for the public hearings on the Party Funding Regulations is accessible (via the Parliamentary Monitoring Group) here.
