Questionnaire: Harmonized Mechanism for Granting Observer and Consultative Status to CSOs
Estimated time to complete the questionnaire: 10 minutes
Due date: 15 March 2022
Background
The purpose of this project is to design a harmonized mechanism through which CSOs can obtain observer and consultative status and thereby engage with the organs of the AU.
ALT Advisory has been engaged by the ECOSOCC Secretariat to assist with facilitating and managing this project.
The granting of observer and consultative status will serve as a mechanism through which a formal relationship between CSOs and the AU can be established in order to regulate the interactions between them, and will serve as the single entry point for CSOs wishing to participate in the work of AU institutions, organs, and agencies.
In this questionnaire, the term “Observer status” refers to a formal certification that allows a CSO to receive documentation about statutory and public sessions held by AU organs as well as observe the holding of those sessions. “Consultative status” refers to a formal certification that enables CSOs to provide AU organs with substantive expertise and advice within a particular topic.
