Preparing research on digital rights and inclusion in South Africa
We are proud to have worked with the Paradigm Initiative in preparing the South Africa chapter in the Londa 2025 Digital Rights and Inclusion in Africa Report.
The full report is an important, useful, and contemporary resource for policymakers, activists, and educators working in digital rights spaces.
The South Africa chapter was prepared by Claire Dehosse, Sophie Smit, and Phenyo Sekati (who works with our partner, Power Law Africa) and finds that while South Africa’s Londa Score Index has increased from 43 to 47 (out of 60) since 2024, major gaps persist, especially in relation to addressing online gender-based violence, protecting journalists online, and expanding internet access.
