Developing an interactive tool on workers’ data rights
We are proud to have supported The Why Not Lab in expanding a digital tool to help workers understand and use their data protection rights: www.workersdatarights.org.
The Why Not Lab, led by Dr Christina Colclough, had already developed an interactive tool to enable workers in the European Union to understand the provisions of the GDPR, and to use these to enforce their data protection rights and negotiate stronger data-rights proections overall.
The ALT Advisory team adapted this approach to South African labour contexts, developing new set of materials for workers to understand the provisions of the Protection of Personal Information Act.
The ALT Media team used Twine, an open-source narrative game platform, to create a user-friendly, interactive experience to help workers explore the laws and regulations that apply in their workplaces, and to develop strategies to enforce and strengthen their data rights.
